AfricaSMAT was founded in 2018 by a group of youths to create a network of African professional youths that would transform agriculture in the continent. This was with the aim of bringing professional youths of Africa from all fields but targeting at fostering innovation aimed at improving agriculture. This is a two pronged fork in which apart from improving the standards of living of the smallholder farmers of Africa, it also works at creating employment for young professionals in an economy suffering from high rate of unemployment of the young population.
We make agricultural innovation possible by bringing young people together with their great innovative ideas of improving small-scale agriculture and in our network, join these ideas to form mega ideas for agricultural transformation. Together, we source funds for up-scaling these innovations to small holder farmers through fundraising and collaborations. This in return creates employment for the young professionals as well as others in our communities reducing unemployment.
Through partnering with public, private, local and international organizations AfricaSMAT is able to increase its influence and assist in:
- Creating employment
- Improving farmers’ resilience to climate change
- Developing solutions for agricultural water supply
- Empower youth, women and the marginalized in our communities
- Fight malnutrition in our communities
- Create sustainable environments for sustainable agriculture
- Create smart markets for agribusiness
